It’s one thing for Hideo Kojima to watch Dan Da Dan, but the praise he’s offered it is another story, entirely. Following the series premiere, Hideo Kojima spoke at length about Dan Da Dan on X, and there, Hideo Kojima praised Dan Da Dan for its unique animation style and stellar character designs and voice acting. With how the story is executed, it makes perfect sense that Hideo Kojima would like Dan Da Dan as much as he did, and for anyone who appreciates Kojima’s insight into pop culture, it’s further proof of how great Dan Da Dan will be.
Dan Da Dan Is The Perfect Anime For Someone Like Hideo Kojima
I got a bit tired of reading so browsed my subscription. Saw the anime “Dandadan†was up, so I decided to watch the first episode. I haven't read the original manga, but being from the generation that loves the occult and UFOs, it really hit home 🛸 I used to skim through “Muâ€â€¦ pic.twitter.com/9eUGAybh1s — HIDEO_KOJIMA (@HIDEO_KOJIMA_EN) October 5, 2024Hideo Kojima watching something like Dan Da Dan perfectly aligns with everything known about his interests. Kojima’s games are famous for their artistic cinematics and surreal stories, and with how eccentric Dan Da Dan makes itself out to be with its writing and animation, Dan Da Dan’s story and presentation are perfectly in line with Hideo Kojima’s quirks as a creative. Other anime recommended by Hideo Kojima like Ride Your Wave and Train to the End of the World are plenty surreal in their own right, so there’s a well-established precedent for Kojima liking those types of anime.
Interestingly, Dan Da Dan also appears to appeal to Hideo Kojima beyond his interests as a creative. In his tweet about Dan Da Dan, Kojima talked about how he’s from the generation that grew up loving UFOs and the occult, even being an old fan of the Japanese occult magazine Mu, so Hideo Kojima’s interest in Dan Da Dan is just as in line with his personal interests as it is with his creative interests. The series appealed to Kojima on all fronts, and it more than deserves the praise it’s received from him and others.
