I’m Sure That Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch Will Return To The MCU Now More Than Ever

Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch

I was already a believer that Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch would come back from the dead, but after some recent developments, I'm now more sure than ever that there is a plan for Wanda Maximoff's return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I liked Olsen's Scarlet Witch from her very first scene in the MCU. I had watched some of the actress' previous work, but Olsen was not one of the stars I had followed the most. That allowed her work as Wanda to slowly show me just how big of a powerhouse the MCU had added.

After some significant moments in Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, which ranged from me staring in awe at the Scarlet Witch's power to being heartbroken by Vision's death sequence, came WandaVision. The MCU's Disney+ series made the Scarlet Witch one of the franchise's most popular heroes, and I believe that she deserves that spot. That should have led to an even bigger role for Wanda in the MCU's movies. However, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness made the controversial decision to make her a villain and kill Wanda. Thankfully, the Scarlet Witch's return seems to be in order.

Agatha All Along Is Full Of Scarlet Witch Teases

The Marvel Studios Series Wastes No Time Teasing Wanda's Return

The Scarlet Witch is currently dead in the MCU. Agatha All Along confirmed that when the series premiered, with Aubrey Plaza's Rio Vidal telling Agatha Harkness that Wanda died, leaving Kathryn Hahn's character trapped in her spell in Westview. The new MCU series also featured the Scarlet Witch's death as a major plot point. While Wanda Maximoff's face was never shown, Agatha investigates the murder of a Jane Doe — later revealed to be Wanda — in an episode inspired by police procedurals, using a page from WandaVision's book of exploring different genres of TV.

At the start of the investigation, Agatha All Along teased the Scarlet Witch's MCU return. While Agatha is still trapped in Wanda's spell, believing that her Agnes persona is an experienced detective in the episode, she has an intriguing scene with another character that has made me even more hopeful for Elizabeth Olsen's MCU return to happen sooner rather than later. In the Disney+ series, Agatha/Agnes asks her police colleague Herb whether the Jane Doe was really dead. Herb says, "Oh, she’s really, most sincerely, dead". However, Agatha then teases Scarlet Witch's return, saying, "You never know," and winks mischievously.

I’m Convinced That “Teen” Is Billy Kaplan - Wanda’s Son

Agatha All Along Presents An Intriguing MCU Mystery

As the first spinoff series to come from WandaVision, I went into Agatha All Along fully expecting to see some kind of setup for Wanda's MCU return. I never imagined that the Scarlet Witch would actually appear on the show, so not seeing her face during the investigation in the first episode was not a problem for me. The series is already doing a great job of teasing the Scarlet Witch's inevitable return, and even if Wanda does not appear in the show, I'm convinced that someone close to her is crucial to Agatha All Along.

Note

" In Marvel Comics, Wanda's sons, Billy and Tommy, have their souls reincarnate as new characters in the Marvel Universe."

Agatha All Along introduces a series of exciting new characters to the MCU. So far, the two who have made the biggest impact on the series are Aubrey Plaza's Rio Vidal, a powerful witch that helps Agatha claw her way out of Wanda's spell but has a complicated past with her, and Joe Locke's "Teen." There has been a lot of secrecy around Locke's MCU character since the moment he was cast, with it taking quite some time to even be revealed that he was referred to as "Teen." Agatha All Along added even more details to the mystery.

TI believe that something crucial to the Scarlet Witch coming back to life could be at the end of the Witches' Road for "Teen," who I'm convinced is Billy Kaplan.

First of all, "Teen" knows all about Agatha Harkness, being the one to push the witch into assembling a coven to walk the Witches' Road. The supernatural location is said to give those who reach the end what they want the most. I believe that something crucial to the Scarlet Witch coming back to life could be at the end of the Witches' Road for "Teen," who I'm convinced is Billy Kaplan. The series has spells blocking "Teen" from revealing details about his past to others, but a slip-up revealed he is named Billy, who should be Wanda's reincarnated son.

Elizabeth Olsen's Comments About A Scarlet Witch Return Make It Seem More Likely

The Actress Is Now Speaking More Positively About A Return

Agatha All Along's teases regarding the Scarlet Witch have me very excited about the chances of seeing Wanda return relatively soon to the MCU, but there is a bigger factor that makes me think Marvel has a solid plan in place. Last year, Elizabeth Olsen made some comments about her time in the MCU that made it seem like she was done with the role. In June 2023, on Variety’s “Actors on Actors” series, Olsen revealed that she was seemingly ready to move on from the MCU, something that took me by surprise even though the Scarlet Witch was dead.

The Scarlet Witch's Solo Movie Tease Seems Too Good To Not Follow Up On

After Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness made the Scarlet Witch a villain, I hope that the MCU gives Wanda the biggest possible stage for her redemption arc. WandaVision and Agatha All Along creator Jac Schaeffer wants to see a Scarlet Witch movie happen, and I believe that is the ideal scenario for her MCU return. Olsen has already shown in WandaVision that she can lead a popular MCU project, and a movie would give the necessary time and focus to get Wanda's redemption right.

A Scarlet Witch movie could build up on WandaVision's two spinoff series. Agatha All Along has teased Wanda's return right from its first episode, and Paul Bettany's Vision series could reportedly feature Olsen as the Scarlet Witch. I believe that it would make sense due to the characters' connection, with White Vision perhaps looking for Wanda as he attempts to make sense of his memories. That said, I would prefer if the series ended with Wanda coming back, allowing the MCU to really go into her redemption arc in a solo movie that shines the spotlight on the Scarlet Witch.
